These past weeks, I have noticed you needing a break from the US collapse. As you pointed out yourself, it's hard to focus on the US downfall when you are withing your homeland and experiencing their recovery.
If you would be so inclined, I would love to learn about the recovery from your perspective. I'm familiar with the nuclear physicist turned city duck exterminator, and with many of the other details you've shared about the bottom... but what happened to cause the upswing? Did people simply get over the collapse and decide that life had to go on? Was that the turning point? What significant societal changes occurred to bring about the regrowth? I doubt many would question whether the US is failing, and thanks to your writing, we can understand how. The gap I see today, is in understanding what we do next.
How relevant is the content for someone living outside of the united states?
Do you think the 5 stages will also play out in small moderately developed agricultural countries like New Zealand? I realise we do import a lot of the day to day items from far off China.
@Blockhill, just based on the original article, I think I can say with confidence that it is very relevant to someone living in a country such as New Zealand. The timeliness is where living outside of the US matters. Any economy based on petroleum faces the danger of collapse at some point. Ones that have debt to GDP ratio over 1 have imminent risk. For places like Somalia this book may or may not be completely irrelevant.
To answer some of the questions that have been asked here:
1. Russia's recovery was enabled by a renewed emphasis on law and order and ample funds from hydrocarbon exports. It is a country on the upswing, just as the US is a country in decline, and this manifests itself in numerous differences that I will describe at some point.
2. The autographed copies will require extra shipping and handling, so I won't get the full $10. In fact, it's hard to project how much I will gain from this exercise. If the pre-orders amount to less than 1000 copies then I may gain nothing.
3. In doing the research on this book, I looked at the entire globe—developed countries like Iceland and the US, and places like Somalia and Afghanistan (it seems inaccurate to call them "nations") which are characterized by "durable disorder". I even looked at a tribe that makes iron weapons using stone age technology. The book is about humanity in general, not any specific part of it.
Dear Mr Orlov, I don't have a Paypal account and don't want one due to their data privacy agreement. I would be happy to pay $40 cash via post for a signed copy of your new book if you have some other method of payment such mail to a PO box or a merchant account that takes VISA, MC, AMEX, Master etc. Thank you, Michael

Do you have a model with assumptions and thesis for this with a probability range? If so I would like to see your math and will share mine which point to 2020 if you share yours.
Just a suggestion to help Michael. Major banks now allow you to email money to people. I have used this option and it's very easy. You would not need PayPal. Be sure Dmitri is comfortable with the option.
Dmitri, processing an email money order is as simple as clicking a link in the email. I've been using them for a couple years. It would be a good option if this type of request comes in regularly.

Will there be a Kindle or other e-book format of this? I'd love to read it but I live aboard a ship as well and my space for printed dead tree matter, as lovely and aesthetic as it is, is fairly nonexistent.
For some of us, asking us to use Paypal is like asking us to get a mortgage loan from Bank of America, and a credit card from Capital One. There are other free payment methods available (Google Checkout, and a slew of others).
Paypal really is scum (search; "Paypal alternatives")
Hopefully shipping providers are still operating at affordable rates in May '13. If this collapse accelerates we may have difficulty getting the book. Thanks Orlov for being Awesome. I ordered two books.
